Artists: Mihaela Coanda & Taisia Corbut
In this joint presentation, the works of Taisia Corbut and Mihaela Coandă propose two distinct ways of interrogating the image: one oriented inward, toward a withdrawal into the affective space of the self; the other outward, toward a visual rereading of modernist memory.
Taisia Corbut works in bas-relief, with a language reduced to the essential, almost silent. Her surfaces are marked by minimal gestures, intentional absences, and restrained volumes, pointing to a form of materialized introspection. Her practice begins with a process of inner observation, in which form becomes the expression of an affective presence, not merely an aesthetic decision. Her works refuse spectacle and affirm their existence through balance, silence, and clarity.
Mihaela Coandă explores painting as a space for reactivating visual languages belonging to historical modernism. In her recent works, motifs inspired by artists such as Calder, Rothko, or Miró are recontextualized in a painting that oscillates between figurative and abstract, between recognizable form and deliberate ambiguity. The painted objects acquire sculptural weight, while the backgrounds eliminate the conventions of three-dimensionality, proposing a symbolic reading of space.
The bringing together of the two artists does not rely on contrast, but on complementarity: Corbut investigates the silent presence of form in relation to affect, while Coandă questions the mobility of meaning within a recognizable cultural context. Together, they create a framework for reflection on how the image can simultaneously become an act of withdrawal and a form of reactivation of visual memory.
