Mihaela Coandă (b. 1999, Craiova) is an emerging artist who lives and works between Cluj-Napoca and Craiova. She is a graduate of the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca.
Mihaela Coandă’s visual practice revolves around painting, sometimes branching into the realm of watercolor, with a palette dominated by earthy tones reminiscent of Morandi. Her compositions evoke Italian surrealism, where the metaphysical territory is carefully and delicately intertwined with everyday objects, predominantly set against the synthesized architecture of Italian spaces. By introducing bizarre, amorphous elements from her own imagination, Mihaela amplifies the metaphysical character of these works, placing the viewer in a continuous oscillation between dream and reality.
