BIO
Ioana Tocoaie (Romania, 1998) is a painter born in Sibiu. Her main creative concern is mainly dominated by the fantastic sphere within which we can discover impossible anatomical deformations, absurd juxtapositions of images or events of a sensational verisimilitude. Evoking a realm detached from reality and not just a reconstitution of the latter, my works regardless of the theme or subject addressed are a collage of fragments detached from reality, from the everyday sphere fused with deformations, alterations of elements or ineffable reminiscent of fairy tales.
Recognizable objects, fantastical animals with familiar faces, or the female character found in most of my works, juxtaposed with spontaneity, the play of touch and line transposed with naivety and the subconscious, all are defining elements for the present of my practice. I attempt to poeticize everyday decor by transposing the equality between the forms, bringing to the fore the female bodily movements. Equality between elements, the juxtaposition of discriminatory details from everyday life, such as hair color, eye color, body shape, number of fingers or skin color.
The mirrored character results in a naive aestheticism, a collage of fragments illogically transposed onto the canvas, in a different environment each time. As a whole the artworks define a fantastic world, a reality of depth beyond clear consciousness. A hazard defined by allegories, dream states and equality between forms.
